Faces of Ardmore Roderick: Glenn Hicks, Director of Project Controls – Infrastructure
At Ardmore Roderick, our people are at the center of everything we do. Faces of Ardmore Roderick highlights the individuals behind the work, sharing the experiences and perspectives that shape how we serve our clients and communities.
Glenn Hicks serves as Director of Project Controls – Infrastructure at Ardmore Roderick, bringing his experience in project controls to infrastructure projects and programs.
For Glenn, the path to engineering and construction began early. His interest in building first took shape in high school, when he designed the foundation and exterior views of a house in an architectural class that was later brought to life by a construction contractor.
“I knew then that I wanted to and could build.”
That early interest continued into his academic career, when he sat down with Dr. Thurman Potts, then Dean of Construction Management at what is now the University of Louisiana at Monroe, to discuss his future. The conversation helped Glenn see how pursuing engineering with an emphasis on construction could turn his passion for building into a rewarding career.
Today, Glenn brings his wealth of experience and expertise to Ardmore Roderick’s ongoing work on Metra’s Capital Improvement program, supporting projects throughout the Chicagoland area. The program focuses on constructing new stations and renewing existing rail infrastructure and facilities. Through his involvement, Glenn has contributed to projects that include rail upgrades, new station houses, and ancillary facilities, helping advance Metra’s efforts to modernize and maintain the region’s transit system.
For Glenn, project controls is about more than looking at where a project has been. A project controls professional must bring together fragmented data and move from retrospective reporting toward forward-looking, predictive analysis.
“Project Controls is to Project Management what the Heart is to the Body.”
That perspective reflects the important role project controls plays in supporting project management and helping complex infrastructure programs move toward their goals.
Outside of work, Glenn enjoys golf, a game he describes as challenging and relaxing, frustrating and addictive. He appreciates the combination of skills it demands, from understanding the topography of a small area and developing consistent routines to maintaining mental discipline and applying physics. And, like all golfers, he says he wishes he knew the game better.
