CTA Red Line Extension Groundbreaking Marks a Milestone for Chicago

On Friday, April 24, community leaders, project partners, and stakeholders gathered at the future Michigan Avenue Station site to celebrate a historic milestone, the groundbreaking of the Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) Red Line Extension (RLE).
This moment represents more than the start of construction. It signals a long-awaited investment in connectivity, opportunity, and equity for Chicago’s Far South Side, one of the most significant and transformative transit investments in the city’s history.
A Project Designed to Connect Communities
The Red Line Extension will expand CTA service 5.5 miles, from the existing 95th Street Terminal to 130th Street, introducing four new stations at 103rd Street, 111th Street, Michigan Avenue, and 130th Street. This expansion will provide residents with improved access to jobs, education, healthcare, and essential services, helping to bridge gaps that have existed for decades.
The project is designed not only to improve mobility, but to strengthen the communities it serves. With enhanced transit access comes the potential for economic growth, workforce development, and long-term neighborhood investment.

In this role, our team supports critical functions including coordination across multiple stakeholders, project administration, and oversight to help ensure the program is delivered efficiently and effectively.
Projects of this scale require extensive collaboration, bringing together railroads, utilities, city agencies, and regulatory partners. Through strategic coordination and a focus on constructability, cost, and schedule certainty, the team is working to deliver a project that meets today’s needs and those of the future.
Reimagining Infrastructure for Lasting Impact
At Ardmore Roderick, our vision is to reimagine infrastructure to improve lives and communities. The Red Line Extension embodies that vision, demonstrating how infrastructure can serve as a catalyst for meaningful change.
This project is not just about extending a rail line. It is about creating connections – between neighborhoods, opportunities, and people. It is about investing in communities that deserve reliable, accessible transit and the opportunities it brings.
Looking Ahead
With construction now underway, the Red Line Extension moves one step closer to becoming a reality for the communities it will serve. Ardmore Roderick is honored to play a role in delivering a project that will have a lasting impact on Chicago for generations to come.
