Ardmore Roderick’s interns Carlos Flores and Katelyn McHugh were out in the field performing inspections for IDOT’s reconstruction of I-80 from Houbolt Road to Joliet Junction Trail. They performed inspection of the subgrade, aggregate base course, stabilized base course, CRC pavement and installation of drill shafts, noise wall panels for noise abetment walls on the project.

Their work included verifying that the work is getting performed in accordance with the contract plans, specifications, and project special provisions.

Hands-on experiences like these give our interns a firsthand look at the important role of inspection to maintain the quality of the workmanship which will ensure that the roadways we build today will serve our communities for years to come!

This summer, interns Mia Van Prooyen and Mohammad Ahmad were out in the field inspecting culverts and concrete wing walls, critical infrastructure that helps manage water flow and reduce flood risk.

Their inspections included evaluating the condition of the concrete and surrounding areas for signs of deterioration such as cracking, spalling, scaling, rust staining, and leaching to help ensure these structures continue performing as designed.

The Summer 2026 Internship Program at Ardmore Roderick continues to give our interns a behind-the-scenes look at some of today's most innovative infrastructure projects!

Recently, our interns visited PsiQuantum’s facility currently under construction at the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP) with Senior Design Manager Jon Campbell, PE. Ardmore Roderick is providing engineering and multidisciplinary coordination for the build-out, including the integration of specialized process equipment and related infrastructure. As the first of many tenants on the IQMP campus, the project represents an important step in advancing quantum technology in Chicago and beyond.

The visit gave our interns the opportunity to see how multidisciplinary engineering and coordination come together on a complex, technically advanced project.

We're grateful to everyone who helped make this visit possible and look forward to more opportunities for our interns to learn throughout the summer!
