Chicago O’Hare Airport Runway Rehabilitation
Project Details
A critical crosswind runway, rehabilitated on time and under budget, allows the Chicago Department of Aviation to achieve its ‘fly quiet’ goals.
Ardmore Roderick led a fast-paced reconstruction of one of the airport’s two crosswind runways, meeting the City’s complex procurement and scheduling needs with the construction manager at risk delivery method. The team saved considerable costs for O’Hare’s Runway 4R-22L and adjacent taxiways by taking advantage of fewer daily flights at the peak of COVID-19 to shut down the runway. The mill and overlay project included pavement removal and replacement of the existing runway surface and the necessary striping, grooving and LED lighting installation.
