Powering the Future: Seamless Transition from 4 kV to 34 kV Infrastructure

Ardmore Roderick provided essential engineering and design leadership for the successful retirement of a 4 kV distribution substation, facilitating a seamless transition to a more reliable and efficient 34 kV system. This modernization effort included the conversion of three 4 kV feeders, replacement of all poles to meet 34 kV standards, installation of seven new reclosers for enhanced fault management, and upgrading pole-top transformers to dual-ratio models for long-term adaptability. A detailed Conversion Plan was developed to outline precise switching sequences, minimizing disruption during the transition. By integrating input from construction crews and the client’s operations team, Ardmore Roderick ensured efficient execution and alignment with project goals, advancing the reliability and sustainability of the distribution network.
