Reconstruction of I-55 (Stevenson Expressway) & Lakeshore Drive Interchange Outbound Structures

Project Details

Reconstructing critical roadway infrastructure in the Midwest saves commuters and visitors to Chicago’s convention center countless hours of delays.

I-55 is a crucial thoroughfare linking Lake Shore Drive and the Dan Ryan Expressway via several ramps and bridges. This urban expressway, neighbor to Chicago’s convention center, stadium and museum campus, also connects southern neighborhoods and the lakefront to the city’s central business district and the Loop.

The Ardmore Roderick / EDI Joint Venture provided Phase III Engineering services, including program management, as the IDOT owner’s representative for the reconstruction of I-55 from Lake Shore Drive to I-94. The total project length, including the six bridge structures, is approximately a mile long. The team provided construction management for three new bridge structures, three retaining walls, installation of curb and gutter, modifications to drainage structures, and relocation of light poles and signs. Work also included upgrades/additions to surveillance equipment. Green initiatives include using recycled aggregates, protecting natural habitats through a well-defined stormwater pollution prevention plan, and erosion control within the project limits. Ardmore Roderick coordinated with Metra to relocate utilities. In addition, Ardmore Roderick provided Phase III Land Surveying Services and quality assurance and quality control as-built survey checks. Through this project, Ardmore Roderick not only advances essential infrastructure but also embodies our commitment to fostering better communities through thoughtful design and execution.
