Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) Plaza Improvements

Project Details
Opening the Road to Safer, Smoother Travel on I-90
Ardmore Roderick supported the transition to open-road tolling along the Jane Addams Tollway through the reconstruction of five toll plaza locations at Roselle Road, Arlington Heights Road, and Illinois Route 25. The improvements were driven by the need to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and modernize outdated tolling infrastructure.
Ardmore Roderick delivered civil design services for all plaza sites, including roadway geometry, removals, pavement marking, and maintenance-of-traffic plans. Key responsibilities included completing a barrier warrant analysis, developing plans that removed the existing median islands and overhead canopy, and coordinating with IDOT to manage increased traffic volumes on adjacent routes during ramp closures required for canopy removal and tolling equipment installation. The team also incorporated targeted 3D modeling to refine superelevation transitions and pavement jointing within the constraints of existing ramp geometry.
These improvements enabled a safer, more efficient travel experience—reducing congestion, minimizing driver conflicts, and supporting systemwide modernization. The project’s accelerated schedule and collaborative delivery further advanced the Tollway’s long-term vision for streamlined, reliable mobility.
