Ardmore Roderick was awarded a Design-Build project to complete the installation of a set of seven new batting cages, approximately 8,000 SF, at Archie Gordon Memorial Park in Osceola County. The county needed to relocate the existing batting cage function and engaged our team to design the new space which included site work, a specialized concrete pad to ensure proper movement, and return of the baseballs, new power, lighting, fencing for the cages and relocating and commissioning the existing pitching equipment.

The design team started the project with an initial sketch from the county on the desired layout of the new cages and worked closely with the manufacturer and installers of the cages to ensure that we engineered the design to meet all their specifications and details. The site, while mostly clear and flat, still required the design of stormwater systems including new underground piping to carry the water runoff from the new slab, and a dry pond.

The procurement of the project ran into some challenges due to COVID restrictions and material delays. However, we were able to adjust and find alternate solutions for material and labor shortfalls. The construction of the project was over a period of four months and received rave reviews from the Parks Department staff and area residents. Project was completed on time and within budget.
