Ardmore Roderick is providing Construction Engineering, Inspection, and Surveying services to the City of Chicago Department of Transportation for this high-profile project providing an important connection to the future Obama Presidential Center.

This project will provide additional safe access to the Obama Presidential Center by building multiple new pedestrian underpasses for enhanced safety and mobility of pedestrians. An additional southbound lane on DuSable Lake Shore Drive will be built to allow for the anticipated traffic flow to and from the Obama Presidential Center.

The project also includes rehabilitation of the 57th Street Pedestrian Underpass, reconstruction of E. 57th Drive Retaining Wall C, widening of E. 59th Street Pedestrian Underpass including the installation of a new pump station to prevent flooding. In addition, it includes widening of E. 59th Street Inlet Bridge, widening of E. 63rd Street Pedestrian Underpass, reconstruction of shared use pathways and sidewalks throughout the project area, and installation of new traffic signals, street lights, and underground utilities.

To date, the precast arch structures have been installed for the new pedestrian underpass that will go under Hayes Drive at DuSable Lake Shore Drive and new pedestrian underpass that will go under Cornell Drive at Hayes Drive. In addition. a pedestrian underpass precast arch installation under Hayes Dr. at Cornell Dr. was completed in January 2023.
